Meet Dan Schoenberg

For generations, Dan Schoenberg’s family has been rooted in Latah County and the Palouse. His grandmother, Rosalia Lorang, grew up near Genesee, Idaho, where her family helped shape the region’s early agricultural history. In 1890, her father, Theodore Lorang, along with his brother John, purchased 160 acres of farmland near what is now known as the White Spring Ranch area, establishing one of the early homesteads in the county. The historic Lorang farmstead on Lorang Road still stands as a reminder of that legacy. Growing up with a deep understanding of the land and the people who worked it, Dan developed a lifelong commitment to serving the community his family has called home for well over a century.
Dan and his wife, Gail, have been married since 1994. Together they raised five children and now enjoy a growing family that includes fifteen grandchildren. Family, faith, and service guide every part of Dan’s life. An avid hunter and fisherman, he spends as much time as possible in the outdoors he has loved since childhood—especially archery hunting in the Mallard Larkin Wilderness. He has also served in numerous church leadership positions for more than 30 years.
Dan is the co-owner of Palouse Properties Inc. Through this work, he has developed a deep understanding of housing, local business needs, property management, and the land‑use issues that shape growth in the region. His business background gives him firsthand experience in how policy decisions impact both families and local employers.
In public service, Dan has dedicated decades to improving Moscow and the surrounding area. He recently served as Chair of the Latah County Republicans (2021–2024), earning recognition as the State Republican Party Chair of the Year in 2022. He currently serves as Latah County State Committeeman and on the Moscow Planning & Zoning Commission, where he helps guide responsible development and long‑term planning for the community.
Dan also served for many years on the City of Moscow Utility Rate Commissions (2006–2025) and has contributed to numerous local boards and committees focused on economic development, transportation, arts, schools, youth programs, and community events.
Professionally, Dan spent more than two decades in leadership at the University of Idaho, including serving as Director of Auxiliary Services. In that role, he managed a $23–$26 million annual operating budget and oversight of critical campus services such as housing, dining, transportation, the bookstore, the Kibbie Dome, campus events, and major facility projects. His work required strategic planning, financial management, contract negotiation, and collaboration with organizations across the region. He also led large‑scale event operations—including coordination with law enforcement and federal agencies—ensuring safe and successful events for the university and community.
Whether in business, public service, or community leadership, Dan brings a practical, results-focused approach rooted in deep local knowledge and a commitment to the people of the Palouse. He believes effective leadership means listening, planning thoughtfully, and working every day to support strong families, safe communities, and responsible growth.
